Under the theme “Overcoming Gender Bias in AI Development & Implementation”, the Conference in Albania started on September 27th in Tirana with a discussion that also included government representatives.
A huge thank you to all our speakers, especially Deputy Minister of Health and Social Inclusion Mrs. Denada Seferi and Member of Parliament Mrs. Etilda Gjonaj. Artificial Intelligence has an impact on our life and creates direct consequences to women, a strong regulatory framework is needed to ensure ethical and fair AI, protecting privacy and data security, mitigating risks, and promoting accountability. Let’s continue to work together to ensure that our AI systems reflect the diversity of the world we live in.
The highlight of the day was the visit to the Albanian parliament, where Elisa Spiropali, the Speaker of the Parliament, gave an impressive keynote speech on the importance of this topic. With a significant 75% percentage of government positions led by women and an increased percentage of 35.7% women MPs, Albania shows that change is possible!
The Annual General Meeting was the most expected gathering of our delegates to exchange their ideas and vote for the future of UWE. Congratulations to our newly elected UWE Vice Presidents : Grainne Keane and Ines Dannehl, we say good bye to Aisha Alshawaf and Pina Foti thanking them for all the work done.
We had such a wonderful sunny time in the Land of the Eagles, where an impressive number of UWE members and friends from Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, North Cyprus, Romania, Scotland, Switzerland, UK and Turkey gathered in Durres for the event of the year. The UWE Board would like to express deepest gratitude to the Albanian University Women for their incredible hospitality, their warmth and generosity truly enhanced our experience!
