To mark the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) this year, Graduate Women International (GWI) created the “UNITE: Educate to End Violence against Women and Girls” 16-day poster campaign in collaboration with GWI members to raise awareness about GBV and its impact on education.

“In every GWI member lies a powerful advocate. Now, more than ever, each must see themselves as an advocate for the elimination of Gender – Based Violence. locally and globally. “
We embrace this initiative,  the chosen posters received from the GWI family throughout the 16 days are public on their social media channel,  happy to see some of them are from Europe.
The 16 Days of Activism is an annual international campaign starting on 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ending on 10 December, International Human Rights Day.
Alongside the 16 Days Campaign is the recurring “Orange the World” movement that aims to brighten women and girls’ futures by eradicating GBV in all spheres of public and private life. In effect, the colour orange conveys dynamism and vibrancy that symbolise a positive future without Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG). This campaign is motivated by the 6 December 1989 tragic anti-feminist massacre that took place at the École Polytechnique University Montreal, an event that is representative of the wider societal (VAWG) concern. The movement gained its foothold in 1991 from activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute and continues to be used each year as a global organising strategy by individuals, institutions and organisations to call for the prevention and elimination of all forms of VAWG.
Furthermore in 2008, the United Nations Secretary-General launched the campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women by 2030, which runs parallel to the 16 Days of Activism. Every year, the UNITE Campaign focuses on a specific theme and this year’s is “UNiTE! Educate to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” GWI has been actively involved in this campaign. This year GWI organised a poster campaign to commemorate this day.
