On behalf of UWE members, we extend our sympathies and friendly wishes to our sisters in the Turkish Association of University Women on the devastating earthquake and aftershocks in Turkey and Syria and the immense loss of life.
Dr. Başak Ovacık CER, TAUW confirmed that all their members are hopefully safe and here below is their message:
“We have 3 branches (Adana, Gaziantep, Hatay) in the region affected by these eartquakes.Our members are safe but some lost their relatives, friends. We have around 250 scholarship students coming from the affected cities. Everyday we have call and continue to help more students and their family in need. Some have lost their family members and houses. Some are still praying for their relatives to be rescued. The temperature is below zero,aftershocks continue…
We created an earthquake fund, sent blankets and food to the region on the first day, donated some amount to our students’ families and continue to help as much as we could.
